No. 3 1986-87 Football
Record: 10-1-1, Rose Bowl Champions
Head coach: John Cooper
Notable players: Eric Allen, Darryl Harris, Jeff Van Raaphorst
The rundown: A prolific offense and defense, Arizona State ranked ninth in terms of points per game on both sides of the ball. After starting the season unranked, the team went undefeated (with a tie with Washington State) in the first 10 weeks of the season without allowing more than 21 points. Their single loss came in Tucson in a 34-17 loss, but ASU rebounded with its lone Rose Bowl win over Michigan.
No. 6 1972 ASU Baseball
Record: 64-8 (18-0 in the WAC)
Head coach: Jim Brock
Notable players: Craig Swan, Jim Crawford, Jim Umbarger
The rundown: The 1972 Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team set a 64-6 record and went undefeated in their conference, which at the time was the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Lead by Jim Brock as the 2nd year coach, the Sun Devils would solidify themselves as, arguably, the most dynamic college baseball team in America at the time. Although, they played formidably in the College World Series, the team would finish 16-5 but would not obtain a championship. However, this is a team that had backbone and a roster made of gold in the silver age of baseball.
