On Saturday, it was announced that Sun Devil rising sophomore guard Taya Hanson will be one of 12 athletes on Canadian Team representing her country at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2019. The tournament includes 15 other teams and will occur July 20-28 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Hanson only averaged 2.4 points in her freshman season, but last year as past of the U18 Canada squad she averaged nearly 12 points that helped her team grab the Silver Medal at the FIBA U18 Championship.
The soon to be sophomore could continue to grow her game overseas into what could be a potential breakout year with ASU losing four seniors from its Sweet Sixteen roster.
She also joins Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention rising sophomore guard Iris Mbulito in representing their countries this summer. Mbulito will play for Spain in the FIBA U20 European Championship in August.
