Next Practice:, Tuesday, August 20

Last Practice: Sunday, August 18

Injury Update

Bubble Squad

Offense: Wide Receiver Geordon Porter, tight end Curtis Hodges, who was in an arm sling and offensive lineman Jarrett Bell

Defense: Safety Cam Phillips

Defensive end Stephon Wright, a talented four-star freshman, was limited in practice. He did participant in 1-on-1 drills. He gave out a nice bull rush against freshman left tackle LaDarius Henderson and an inside spin move to backup right tackle Ralph Frias.

What Went On

As mentioned from Sunday’s practice report, the Sun Devils continued to prepare for next weeks season opener against Kent State. The teams first and second teams are continuing to mold.

The 11-on-11 session saw QBs Jayden Daniels, Joey Yellen and Ethan Long all take snaps. After the short 11-on-11 session, the team split off into their respective positions to work on individual drills.

The passes seemed to be heavily in the screen game both to the running backs and wide receivers. The only near interception bounced off the hands of safety Aashari Crosswell. Joey Yellen looked for tight end Nolan Matthews over the middle and Crosswell undercut the route, but couldn’t secure the catch. Yellen the next play quickly found Matthews in stride over the middle.

The linebackers group under Antonio Pierce, worked on pass rushing and keeping it under five steps to sack the quarterback.

The first team defense went up against the scout team offense, working on their pass coverage and situational spots in a game. Cornerback Chase Lucas tried to bring down an interception one-handed but couldn’t secure it coming back down. Teammates told him to make the grab with two hands but as Lucas pointed out his right hand is tapped heavily around his thumb and the ball just bounces off when he goes up with two hands.

Kicker Brandon Ruiz hit the right upright of the goal post in his only kick of practice.
