With two practices to go, the Sun Devils are putting together their final preparations for their first game of the season. ASU football will be officially back Thursday against Kent State.
Here are some of the highlights from today’s viewing session for the media.
Last Practice: Thursday, August 22
Next Practice: Monday, August 26
Injury Update
Junior wide receiver Curtis Hodges, redshirt freshman wide receiver Geordon Porter (hamstring) went into the bubble.
Redshirt freshman linebacker Stanley Lambert was still in a green non-contact jersey as he continues to rehab through his ACL injury.
Offensive lineman Jarrett Bell was back in action and taking first team snaps. Zach Robertson is still out due to personal reasons.
What Went On
In the teams warmup session, offensive coordinator Rob Likens talked to his centers, quarterbacks and running backs about cutting too early in the upcoming game. He mentioned that the Kent State nose tackle likes to wait on the running backs decision. If the running back were to cut back to the opposite side, the nose tackle could cause a holding penalty on the center and force the Sun Devils back ten yards back.
College of the Canyons junior college transfer Brian Pierce was back retuning kicks with fellow transfer Jack Jones. Joining them was senior wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, redshirt freshman running back A.J. Carter and freshman wide receiver Ricky Pearsall.
From the short media viewing session, the first and second team offensive lines are continuing to be solidified.
First Team:
Cohl Cabral (LT), Alex Losoya (LG), Cade Cote (C), Jarrett Bell (RG), Steven Miller (RT)
Second Team:
LaDarius Henderson (LT), Spencer Lovell (LG), Dohnovan West (C), Roy Hemsley (RG), Cody Shear (RT)
The team’s preparations continue Monday morning, in their last open practice for media before kicking off the season Thursday, August 29 at Sun Devil Stadium.
