Practice moved into the bubble on Monday due to the rain. It’s a short week for Arizona State that departs on Thursday for the Friday night matchup with Cal on ESPN.
Last Practice: Wednesday, September 18
Next Practice: Tuesday, September 24
Linebacker Stanley Lambert was in green non-contact jerseys today at practice again with his knee rehab. Cornerback Kobe Williams appeared in a non-contact jersey for the first time. Safety Cam Phillips worked to the side with his left elbow in a brace, he didn’t not move the arm trying to keep it very still. Phillips left the Colorado game late in the fourth quarter.
Starting right tackle Steven Miller also worked on muscle beach. Defensive tackle DJ Davidson who also left late in Saturday’s loss was a full participant in practice from the 25-minute media viewing session.
What Went On
Kicker Cristian Zendejas and punter Josh Plaster attempted field goals. Plaster took the longer attempts from around the 40-yard line and midfield. Brandon Ruiz was not seen taking kicks.
Wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Brandon Pierce took the kickoff returns. Special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum got on the protectors to show a sense of urgency, which probably comes after the team’s upset loss to Cal.
Aiyuk and wide receiver Geordon Porter — the redshirt freshman got his first career catch last game — worked on the bikes as well.
With Miller working on the side, Roy Hemsley took the first-team reps at right tackle in the offensive line drills. On a shorter week, Hemsley may be called upon to start against the Golden Bears.
Quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole, who has not been seen at the last view practices, was in attendance.
