Preparations continue for Sac State

The media’s viewing portion was limited to around 25 minutes today. Here is our report from the action with a heavy focus on special teams.

Injury Update

Tight end Curtis Hodges and linebacker Stanley Lambert were in green non-contact jerseys.

Wide receiver Geordon Porter (Injury), kicker Brandon Ruiz (injury) and Tillman safety Tyler Whiley (suspension) continued to practice as the team prepares for Sacramento State Friday.

Zach Robertson missed practice again due to personal matters. Starting center Cade Cote broke his foot last week and was around the team on a scooter.

What Went On

Linebacker Khaylan Kearse-Thomas continued to wear his “Mandrake” jersey that appeared to have an ‘M’ with wings logo.

Special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum continued to put a focus today on special teams. Thursday’s performance saw the Sun Devils allow 168 total return yards to Kent State.

In the punt return portion of practice, senior wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and transfers Jack Jones and Brandon Pierce rotated through to return punts.

Redshirt sophomore kicker Cristian Zendejas continued to be the team’s place kicker and connected on four field goals from various distances.

Aiyuk and Pierce were back returning kicks with Aiyuk being the primary returner.

A New England Patriots and Houston Texans scout were in attendance for Sun Devils practice.
