Two late goals by the San Diego State Aztecs (1-1) sent the Arizona State Sun Devils (2-2) home with a heartbreaking 19-18 loss.

The Sun Devils jumped out with a 3-0 run, with the Aztecs coming right back and taking a 4-3 lead. It was a battle back-and-forth throughout the entire first half, the lead constantly switching between teams. The Sun Devils went into halftime with a 2 point lead, up 10-8. Despite the Sun Devil lead, the Aztecs outshot them 22-16.

Senior attacker Kerri Clayton came up big once again for the Sun Devils, scoring four goals in the first thirty minutes.

In the second half, the Aztecs were able to slow down the Sun Devil offense holding them only eight points, while they racked up 11. The Sun Devils lead with 1:25 remaining, but SDSU’s Camdyn O’Donnell scored two back-to-back goals, one with 24 seconds left, to seal the Aztec victory.

Once again, the Aztecs outshot the Sun Devils 23-14 in the second half. They also held the advantage with draw controls.

Clayton ended the afternoon with six points and three assists. Junior goalie Berkley Bonneau had 14 saves.

The four-game road trip is finally over and the Sun Devils will return home and face Marquette next Thursday at 12 p.m. MST.
