Injury Report
Sophomore quarterback Jayden Daniels took part in today’s practice after watching from the sidelines with his class schedule. Sophomore defensive lineman Stephon Wright was back on the field fully participating with the team. Senior cornerback Jack Jones was still seen wearing a green non-contact jersey but was a full participant. Senior tight end Curtis Hodges was in a walking boot after hurting his ankle in Monday’s practice. He was on the sidelines watching practice. Redshirt sophomore Cam Philips wasn’t seen at practice today, after taking part in Monday’s practice.
What Went On
Just like the first day, the team went through their scheduled periods. In those periods, media and fans were able to see all three sides of the ball at work. Early on, special teams coach Shawn Slocum worked with the first team punt team. He made sure every player was lineup correctly to protect the punter at all costs. Back to receive punts were: Jones, wide receiver Brandon Pierce and running back Nick Johnson.
Outside of the 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills, one of the more exciting periods of play was the one-on-one drill. In this sequence, people watching saw pass catchers go head to head against the linebackers and defensive backs. Out of the 16 plus throws recorded, senior wideout Frank Darby and corner Jack Jones had all eyes on them. In their first matchup, Darby felt as if he was being fouled from the start of his route. After a redo in the matchup, Jones came in to break up the pass and started yelling out loud his excitement of the pass breakup. In their next go-around, Jones once again stopped Darby from coming down with a catch.
In the field goal session all three kickers took turns from multiple spots on the field to attempt a field goal. Crisitian Zendejas was the only kicker to walk away perfect in his attempts. Both Jack Luckhurst and Josh Plaster missed a field goal, but took attempts at a 50-yarder. Each one made a kick from 50-yards out.
