Bobby Hurley is adding more strength to his backcourt as Arizona State landed Holland Woods earlier this afternoon.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound guard is a transfer out of Portland State University who averaged 17.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game in 2019-20. He was also a Big Sky first-team selection.

Woods attended Apollo High School in Glendale prior to playing for the Vikings, and the local product is returning home. He has one year of eligibility left, and he will likely have to sit out the 2020-21 season, but play the following year.
Prior to his junior season this year, Woods was a Big Sky second team selection as a sophomore, and he was the Conference’s Freshman of the Year during his first season in Portland.
Woods is the program’s all-time leader in assists (521) and steals (165), and he is fifth all-time in points (1,387). Aside from ASU, he was considering New Mexico, Oregon State, Gonzaga, or returning to Portland State as his destinations for his final season of college basketball.

After both Remy Martin and Romello White declared for the NBA Draft, and ASU lost Elias Valtonen, Khalid Thomas, and Andre Allen via the transfer portal, Woods appears to be a big addition to the program.
With guard Alonzo Verge Jr. having one more year in Tempe, it would seem that Woods could slot in after him to help fill a void in the backcourt.
