Finishing her career sixth all-time in digs and playing every set this past season, Courtney Leffel is our House of Sparky Player of the Year for volleyball.
Year in School: Senior
- 1,527 career digs (sixth all-tme)
- 566 digs in 2019-20, eighth most in a single season at ASU
- Only Sun Devil to play every set in 2019-20
- Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week (11/18)
- 15 matches with 20+ digs
Best moments of the season:
A defensive anchor in the Sun Devil rotation, libero Courtney Leffel was a digs machine for head coach Sanja Tomasevic this past season.
Among her most notable performances, Leffel helped ASU pull out a five-set battle against Arizona in Tucson to sweep the season series against the Wildcats for the first time in over a decade. Leffel had 22 digs in the rivalry bout.
The Flagstaff native also had 27 digs in Eugene to upend Oregon on Nov. 17, playing a crucial role in a road sweep of the Oregon schools. Leffel’s play on the two-game road trip helped her earn Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week.

Though, perhaps the senior’s best showcase came during non-conference play, when Leffel racked up a monster number of 39 digs to help seal a five-set win against LSU in the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup at the beginning of the year.
Leffel leaves behind a standout four-year career in Tempe, where she was a strong defensive presence that helped set up the Sun Devil offensive attack.
