ASU Basketball: Portland State transfer guard Holland Woods granted eligibility

The Sun Devil Backcourt gets another boost for this season

NCAA Basketball: Portland State at Indiana Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the Pac-12 basketball season, the Arizona State Sun Devils were delivered good news as transfer guard, Holland Woods, has been granted immediate eligibility for this season.

The former Portland State guard has one year of eligibility remaining, but needed a waiver to play as he isn’t a graduate transfer.

Last year for the Vikings, Woods averaged 17.7 points, 5.2 assists, and 2.1 steals, leading the team in all three categories. He shot over 41 percent from the field and over 30 percent from beyond the arc.

The former 2017-2018 Big Sky Freshman of the Year has been granted eligibility, but the decision on whether to play this season is unknown. Sun Devils coach Bobby Hurley said it is Woods’ decision on playing or to redshirt this season.

The Sun Devils backcourt received more good news recently as Remy Martin and Alonzo Verge are returning for their final seasons after withdrawing from the NBA Draft.
