Devil Distancing: Life away from the pitch with Jazmarie Mader

Offensive star

Sun Devil Athletics

Jazmarie Mader played on the Sun Devil Soccer team from 2014-2018. The 5-foot-7 forward led the team in goals (8) and points (16) during the 2016 season, until she missed seven games due to an injury. Heading into the 2017 season she was Arizona State’s career leader in goals (12) and points (37). She ended her career as Sun Devil with 13 goals, 33 points and played in 70 games.

Favorite memory as a Sun Devil?

I was actually at the football game where Jalen Strong caught the “Jael Mary” and it was the coolest experience beating USC and the crowd went absolutely insane. It was a lot of fun! Something I’ll remember forever.

What does a typical day look like in your life?

I work for the man who helped create Waste Management, He now is creating a new company and I’m the corporate executive assist for the CEO, CFO, and COO of the company so my day has a lot of zoom calls, a lot of scheduling travel (pre-covid) helping with stock certificates, speaking with investors, and keeping about eight people on track all day via computer. It’s hectic but it’s fun and I love the people I get to work with!

If you could re-live one game from your Sun Devil career, what would it be?

I would have to say the day we beat Pepperdine down in Tucson. I scored twice and I was in such a dry patch that it felt so good to finally hit my stride! The coaches at the time were so happy and the whole team was just such an amazing feeling to “be back” in a sense.

Who was one former teammate or coach who had a major impact on your life?

I would have to say Rachel Ometer had by far the biggest impact on me. She was my first friend on the team and she really took me under her wing and made me feel included. We’re still friends to this day. She’s just an all around amazing individual.

Do you have a current Sun Devil you enjoy to watch?

I’m not very involved with the current ASU team despite living in Tempe still. I’m super busy and after the Alumni game was cancelled I haven’t really checked in. I’d probably say Jess Hale is my favorite since last year. She’s feisty and she was a freshman when I was a senior and I think she’s just such a fighter and grinds everyday and I always loved that about her.
