ASU Basketball: Sun Devils hit the road to take on Oregon State

Back on the road

For the first time since Dec. 13, the Arizona State men’s basketball team hits the road as they travel to Corvallis, Ore. to take on the Oregon State Beavers this weekend.

Bobby Hurley and Co. were slated to play the Oregon Ducks on Thursday, but due to COVID-19 concerns within the Ducks program, the game has been postponed.

The postponement marks the fifth time this season that ASU has had a game postponed. Their matchups against Incarnate Word, Utah, Washington, and Washington State were all put on pause earlier this season.

On the bright side, the Sun Devils are scheduled to play only one game next week as they host their rival, Arizona, on Thursday, Jan. 21.

With only one game on the schedule for next week, an opportunity is open to make up one of the postponed games from earlier this season. Hurley said in his Thursday press conference that administrators are working on a possible makeup game soon.

What Time/Where To Watch

Saturday’s matchup against the Beavers will be aired on the Pac-12 Network, tipping off at 5:00 p.m. MST.

Who To Watch

Oregon State has started its season with a 5-4 record, but it has not been smooth sailing, hitting some bumps along the way. Similar to ASU, they have had four games postponed so far, limiting them to nine games.

OSU is led by Ethan Thompson. The senior guard leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game, and shooting over 38 percent from three-point range.

The Sun Devils have to watch out for sophomore guard Jarod Lucas, too. Coming off the bench every game this season, Lucas is second in scoring at 12.3 points per contest, while leading the team in three-point makes with 19.

The Beavers have dominated the glass this year, winning the rebounding battle in seven of nine games. As for Bobby Hurley’s squad, they have lost the rebounding battle in eight straight games.

History

The Sun Devils have won eight of their last 10 matchups, including a current four-game winning streak. Last year, Arizona State swept Oregon State with a six-point victory in Corvallis and a narrow one-point win at home.

Other Notes

-ASU is currently riding a three-game losing streak with all three losses coming at home to unranked opponents. Will traveling prove to end the drought?

-Hurley said that Remy Martin is slated to return, but Jalen Graham and Taeshon Cherry will miss the game.
