Arizona State kicker Cristian Zendejas has entered the transfer portal. The Gilbert native held the Sun Devils’ starting job for the entirety of the 2019 season and much of 2020, before experiencing struggles that led to redshirt freshman Jack Luckhurst surpassing Zendejas on the depth chart late in the year.

Zendejas was one of the more reliable kickers in the Pac-12 in 2019, but a poor showing in a small sample size in 2020 will likely keep him from returning to Tempe in 2021.

He had been nearly perfect in the short game during his ASU tenure, but struggled mightily with long range kicks from 40-plus yards.

Zendejas went 2-4 on those kicks in 2020, with one of his misses opening the door for Luckhurst to show off his leg in this year’s Territorial Cup game.

If Zendejas is to depart, Luckhurst will likely be ASU’s starting kicker in the immediate future, though returning kickoff specialist Logan Tyler and incoming 2021 kicker/punter Edward Czaplicki will join the program as well.
