ASU Football: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. Stanford

Next man up.

The Arizona State Sun Devils did it again for the second week in a row, playing a complete game and dominating another Pac-12 foe from California. Like many California natives who attend ASU, the Cardinal traveled to Tempe but didn’t have the same Sun Devil experience that their California cousins had.

Let’s get into another good week of what was good, bad, and ugly.

The Good - The Defense

No Chase Lucas, no problem. Jack Jones stepped up in a major way, notching an interception and a pass breakup all while playing on an island. The Secondary did their front seven a lot of favors, locking up the towering Stanford receiving core. Since the BYU game, Antonio Pierce has the defense playing at an extremely high level, and the result since has been three straight conference wins. Every conference win is a battle in itself, and the Sun Devil defense has held down the front line so far.

The Bad - ASU fans

I’m going to call out the Sun Devil fanbase. The Devils are 5-1 and 3-0 in Pac-12 play. The offense and defense are getting better by the week, and the weather is cooling down so the excuse of being too hot isn’t valid anymore. Why aren’t the fans showing out? The team is exciting and playing well, they’re shaking up to be one of the best teams in the Pac-12, and are generating more national attention by the week. Show up and show out ASU fans!

And don’t leave at halftime!

The Ugly-The Penalties

Just kidding! The Devils played a good, clean, disciplined game, showing drastic improvement every week since their 16-penalty loss at BYU. The Devils have made progress, and are seeming to learn from their mistakes. They’re getting better, and with USC stumbling, Oregon facing injury issues, and UCLA behind them, the Pac-12 is wide open. Herm Edwards and company have a real shot at a conference title.
