Arizona State is back in the AP Top 25. Following the Sun Devils’ win over previously ranked UCLA, and taking prime position to win the Pac-12 South, Arizona State is ranked 22nd according to the poll.
The Pac-12 isn’t well represented in the poll. The Sun Devils are the only team from the conference besides Oregon, which fell from third to ninth after it lost to Stanford Saturday. The Cardinal, which received 11 votes, come to Tempe on Friday and playing a lot better than it looked in its Week 1 loss to Kansas State. Oregon State, the most surprising team in the conference thus far, essentially came ranked 28th.
The other interesting part is seeing BYU put in at 10th. No one likes playing the “What If,” but it’s fair to wonder if the Sun Devils had played better in Provo where they’d be ranked now.
Nevertheless, Arizona State hasn’t always handled success well under Her Edwards. It’ll be interesting to see how the Sun Devils live up to the ranking against a Stanford team on a short-week.
