It only took that breakthrough win. Arizona State volleyball (12-10, 5-6 Pac-12) continued to roll on Friday. The Sun Devils swept Cal (7-15, 0-11) 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-17) for their fourth straight win.
In Arizona State’s most convincing win of conference play, a different face led the offensive attack. Freshman outside hitter Geli Cyr, who has seen her role in increase the past few weeks, had a game-high 14 kills on a .385 hitting percentage.
“She plays way above her age. She is very smart and can see the block well. She has a toolbox that even some of our older players don’t even have,” Sun Devil coach Sanja Tomasevic said. “It is fun to see her get out and compete now that her shoulder is healthier. We still haven’t seen the best of her yet. It is fun to see how calm and poised she was out there, but she is still a freshman that gets nervous. She is going to be an amazing addition for us going forward, not just this season, but beyond.”
The usual suspects; Iman Isanovic and Marta Levinska each contributed double digit kills as well.
Can Arizona State keep it going on Sunday? The Sun Devils play No. 15 Stanford, which just loss to Arizona, and another win could mean a lot to Arizona State’s now possible NCAA Tournament chances.
