Magda Jehlarova certainly looked like the All-American that she is for Washington State (9-6, 3-2 Pac-12) on Thursday. Behind Jehlarova’s 11 kills, .667 hitting percentage and three blocks, the Cougars swept Arizona State (8-8, 1-4) 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-14).
The Sun Devils appeared to lack the fight they normally play with as Washington State’s win margin increased each set. Part of the reason for that was Arizona State’s offense. Iman Isanovic (.100 hitting percentage), Marta Levinska (.077) and Claire Jeter (-.062) all three struggled to find consistency attacking. Meanwhile, one bright spot was Roberta Rabelo. She finished with 30 attacks and converted it into a team-high 10 kills.
Jehlarova had help too. Kalyah Williams matched her 11 kills and added two blocks as well. The Cougars truly dominated. They had less errors, nine service aces and more blocks.
Arizona State will try to regroup for a better performance when it hosts ranked Washington on Sunday.
