The news for Arizona State football isn’t all bad this week. A day after Darien Butler was named a semi-finalist for the Butkus Award, fullback Case Hatch was named as a nominee for the Burlsworth trophy.
The distinction is given to the nation’s most outstanding walk-on college football player. Notable award winners in the past include Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Clemson wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, and Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin. All three have had successful stints in the NFL.
Walked on and made his presence known.

Congratulations to Case Hatch on being nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy.
Hatch has been revered by teammates and coaches alike for his vital role in ASU’s high powered run game. The local product (Perry Gilbert) is seen as one of the conferences best fullbacks, and made headlines earlier this season when he vowed to “make a chain” out of his broken facemasks.
Hatch and company will look to get back in the win column this week as Arizona State hosts USC on Saturday evening.
