ASU Football: Three-star tight end Jacob Newell joins Arizona State 2022 class

It’s been awhile

Arizona State has a new commitment. The very small Sun Devil class of 2022 added a new prospect on Monday. Oregon native Jacob Newell announced his pledge via Twitter.

Newell took an official visit this past weekend in the Sun Devil win over USC. He also holds offers from Arizona, Fresno State, Colorado State, Hawaii, UNLV and a few more.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound tight end is currently rated the 58th at his position according to 247Sports. The recruiting database also ranks him as the fifth-best player from Oregon and 1047th overall in the class.

Originally, Newell committed to Nevada this summer. The idea of playing in the Pac-12 and taking the official visit to Tempe seemed to win him over.

The Sun Devils still have plenty of work to do but the NCAA Investigation has certainly held them back on the recruiting trails. The other five Arizona State commits are defensive tackles Syncere Massey, Robby Harrison, running back Tevin White, safety Tristan Dunn and kicker Carter Brown. The Sun Devils still have the fewest commits in the Pac-12 — Utah has seven — and are still ranked last by 247Sports.
