ASU Softball: Sun Devils rout Seattle

Everything working together

Everything worked for No. 16 Arizona State (3-0) on Friday. The Sun Devils took care of business in a 9-1 win over Seattle (0-2).

In the circle, freshman Allison Royalty got her first collegiate start. Similar to her appearances for the Sun Devils in her first two games, she was nearly flawless.

Royalty got into some trouble early after she allowed two base hits in the first inning, but picked up her first of eight strikeouts to end the frame.

The right-handed hurler proceeded to throw all five innings in the shortened run-rule win. Seattle manufactured a run in the third inning, but other than that there was not much offense against Royalty.

The offense started early and often as all nine runs came in the first two innings. Maddi Hackbarth led the way. The senior catcher drilled her first home run of the season and a pair of doubles to drive in a total of three runs.

In her Sun Devil debut, Brittany Holland showed her talent at the plate, too. The Louisiana transfer had two hits, including a two-RBI double. First baseman DeNae Chatman and right fielder Jazmine Hill each drove in two runs a piece.

Arizona State plays Pac-12 foe Utah in a non-conference slate on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. MT.
