Arizona State water polo (5-0) went on a scoring frenzy on Saturday. In 15-3 and 23-9 wins over California Baptist (0-4), the Sun Devils kept their hot start to the season going.
The 23 goals scored in the second part of the teams’ doubleheader mark the third-most goals in program history for the Sun Devils.
Freshman Luca Petovary continues to lead the attack. She led the team with three goals in the first game and added three more in the second game.
Blaire McDowell and Emma Fraser each had four goals in the later matchup. In addition to Petovary, McDowell and Fraser, seven other Sun Devils acclimated goals.
The defense also held very strong in the first game for Arizona State. Goalkeepers Itzahiana Baca and Belen Ehinger had a combined eight saves against CBU.
There will be a top-five matchup next weekend in Tempe when the Sun Devils host CWPA’s top-ranked USC Trojans on Feb. 26 and 27.
