Wins all around

Cairo Leonard-Baker prepared for her final floor routine at home. The pressure was on. Arizona State needed its senior to have a typical Cario Leonard-Baker performance to surpass Arizona on Saturday, and she nailed it. A 9.900 finale on floor pushed Arizona State to a 196.100-196.075 win over Arizona.

Coming into the floor event, the Sun Devils trailed by a .325 margin needing a huge floor result.

ASU did just that after a 49.400 score. Hannah Scharf’s 9.925 number earned her the floor title. She also won another all-around title. Jada Mangahas matched Leonard-Baker’s 9.900 score as well on floor.

A poor beam event put Arizona State behind. They obviously made up for it on floor, but also on bars and vault as Leonard-Baker and Ayana Smith took those respectively.

Arizona State finishes the regular season on March 12 with a trip to Boise State.

Water Polo

After a tough weekend against fellow top-10 opponents USC and Michigan, fifth-ranked Arizona State (7-3, 1-0 Pac-12) made a statement on Saturday after a 10-9 win over No. 2 Stanford (0-1, 0-1).

The two teams were pretty even for most of the game until Arizona State went on a 6-2 starting late in the third period.

The Sun Devils, cushioned by a four-point lead with 3:30 left after a Luca Petovary goal, felt quite the attack from Stanford. The Cardinal scored three goals to pull within one, but Arizona State did enough to hold onto the win.

Blaire McDowell led the team with three scores. Lara Kiss, Bente Rogge and Petovary each had two goals.

Arizona State and Stanford play again on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. MT.

Beach Volleyball

Arizona State beach volleyball (2-2) split a doubleheader in Tucson on Saturday. The Sun Devils fell to Boise State (1-1) 3-2 but followed it by sweeping Stephen F. Austin (2-4) 5-0.
