No. 11 Arizona State softball will return to Farrington Stadium with a 15-1 record after four wins at the Orange and Blue Classic. On Saturday, the Sun Devils dominated both their meetings with Incarnate Word and UTEP.
Game One
ASU’s 8-0 win over Incarnate Word (2-8) was all about the three H’s; Hackbarth, Hackbarth and Holland.
Maddi Hackbarth blasted another home run, this time the grandest of them all. Incarnate Word walked Jazmine Hill with two outs to load the bases, and that was a mistake. Hackbarth blasted a gland slam to extend the Arizona State lead to six.
Kindra Hackbarth added a sacrifice fly as well. Later in the game, it was her just strolling around the bases practically.
She doubled, advanced to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch. Brittany Holland had herself a two-hit, two-RBI game after RBI singles in the second and fifth inning.
In the circle, Lindsay Lopez kept her hot streak going. Another win, another five-inning shutout where she allowed two hits and struck out five.
Game Two
Everyone got a piece of the offensive pie in Arizona State’s 21-1 onslaught against UTEP (4-8). Six home runs were hit in total. Kindra and Maddi Hackbarth each sent one out, while Jazmine Hill, DeNae Chatman and Brittany Holland joined the parade as well.
Then Harleigh Braswell mashed the first big fly of her college career. Seven different batters had multi-RBI nights. Makenna Harper collected another three-hit game as well.
In the circle, Cielo Meza and Allison Royalty split the workload. Meza went three innings, allowing one run and striking out four. Royalty faced six batters and sat down four of them via the K.
