The Sun Devils run at the Pac-12 Championships officially came to a close on Friday, but it wasn’t without a solid beginning to the day in Los Angeles.

ASU took down Washington by a score of 3-2 in its first bout of the afternoon. The Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead but the Huskies would respond to tie it.

In the final dual, the pair of Samantha Plaster and Lila Bordis completely controlled their final frame to earn the hard-fought victory.

Plaster and Bordis ended up rattling off 12 points in a row in the final set to clinch the 15-3 victory and move on.

However, in the second bout of the day, the Sun Devils weren’t able to pull off the upset against No. 9 Stanford as Taryn Ames and Lauren Weintraub were the lone victors for ASU in the second matchup.

Here was a rundown of how the pairs fared against their respective opponents:

Water Polo

The old saying goes, ‘the third time’s the charm’. For the Sun Devil water polo team, this sentiment held to be true on Friday against Cal.

After falling to the Golden Bears twice during the regular season, ASU ended up having the last laugh, defeating Cal 12-8 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference Championship Tournament.

The Devils led by five goals going into half and ended up closing things out the rest of the way. Offensively, the team was spurred by Lara Kiss, who had four goals.

In the end, it was a full team effort though as ASU had six different scorers. However, the story of the day wasn’t the goals, it was the goals that weren’t given up on the other end.

For the Sun Devils, Chelsea Karimazondo made 19 saves in goal, which was tied for fourth most all-time in a single game in ASU history.

“It’s so great to see the team perform their best, and it’s championship season,” said head coach Todd Clapper in a recap from Sun Devil Athletics. “I am just so proud of them, the work they put in, and just playing together and having fun.”

Up next, it will be a tall task as Clapper’s group gets set for a duel with top-seeded USC that is set to begin on Saturday, May 1 at 2 p.m. local time at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe.
