Coach Bobby Hurley and Arizona State basketball added another transfer on Thursday. Former Ohio State and Northwest Florida State college forward Alonzo Gaffney announced his commitment to the Sun Devils on his Twitter. The news was first reported by Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

Last season, Gaffney scored 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 22 minutes per game at Northwest Florida State College.

He spent his freshman season in 2019 at Ohio State, where he didn’t see a ton of action, with his best outing coming against UMass Lowell. Gaffney scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in that contest.

Coming out of Brewster Academy, the Ohio native was ranked at the nation’s 50th-best recruit in the nation by 247Sports. The 6-foot-9 wing was also considered a four-star small forward and 12th best at the position in his class.

Gaffney also played with fellow Sun Devil transfer Luther Muhammad, who sat out last season, at Ohio State. Gaffney will have three years of eligibility.

Arizona State now welcomes 10 new scholarships players to its roster for the 2021-22 season. Only sophomore forward Jalen Graham and senior forward Kimani Lawrence return to the fold as scholarship players.
