Arizona State baseball heads to Texas for Austin Regional

Horns down?

Zac BonDurant

The NCAA had its baseball selection show on Monday morning. The Sun Devils will be headed to Austin, Texas in a regional hosted by the No. 2 national seed, Texas.

The Sun Devils are the two-seed in the regional bracket and open up against Fairfield from the MAAC.

Fairfield was one of the most interesting stories from the 2021 college baseball season. Despite falling in the MAAC Tournament, the program earned an at-large bid due to having the second-best RPI in the country behind a 37-3 record.

On the other side, it’s Texas and its two big arms - Ty Madden and Pete Hansen. Southern is the other team in the regional, as they earned an automatic bid after winning the SWAC Tournament.

This is Arizona State’s fourth NCAA Tournament appearance under Tracy Smith. The pitching depth, like any other regional in any other year, will be tested.

Arizona State’s opening game against Fairfield will be at 7 p.m. ET, 4 p.m. local time on Friday, June 4 and can be seen on ESPN3 or the ESPN app.
