First-year Sun Devil baseball head coach Willie Bloomquist has completed his first full coaching staff. With Jason Kelly returning as pitching coach and Mike Goff named assistant head coach, Bloomquist now adds Bill Mueller as his hitting coach.
Perhaps best known as the third baseman on the “Curse of the Bambino” ending 2004 Boston Red Sox, Mueller’s presence pours even more gallons of MLB experience into the Sun Devil’s tank.

After his career as a player, Mueller spent time with the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals as a hitting coach. He then moved to Arizona, and spent 2020 and 2021 as an assistant coach at Chandler Hamilton High School.
Once a staple in Omaha, the Sun Devil program has been absent from the College World Series in recent years. With a budding young core and a coaching staff full of experience at the highest level, Bloomquist has the pieces around him to take the Sun Devils to the biggest stage in 2022 and beyond.
