Over the span of two years, Arizona State football lost two of their best wide receivers, Brandon Aiyuk and Frank Darby, to the NFL. They both carried a lot of weight and became great leaders for some of the younger receivers to follow suit.

With Darby off to the Atlanta Falcons and Aiyuk with the San Francisco 49ers, there is a spot to fill, and Lavon “LV” Bunkley-Shelton is a great candidate.

Last season as a true freshman, Bunkley-Shelton had 11 receptions for 100 total yards in four games of a shortened season.

Although he never made it to the end-zone, Bunkley-Shelton showed promise and is anticipated to be a big-time play maker for the Devils.

He won the John Jefferson Outstanding Receiver award last season.

The competition is tough, however, with fellow wide receiver Ricky Pearsall more experienced and a whole new young recruiting class coming in.

With a normal full schedule approaching for the 2021 season, Bunkley-Shelton has the ability to win the starter role and prove that he can fill the void Darby and Aiyuk left behind.
