The captain

Graham Winkworth can best describe the impact Alexia Delgado has made on Arizona State and the vision Winkworth has had for the program.

“She is the best leader, the ultimate professional,” he said. “She has aspirations to play pro after college, which she can do without question. I’ve had a lot of quality captains in my 20 years as a head coach, and I think she’s probably the strongest captain I’ve had in 20 years. She is a different level - with her technical ability and her soccer IQ but her influence on other players and bringing them up to be strong leaders as well. She has been a major part in the positive shift that our culture has gone through over the last 18 months as well.”

The Sun Devil captain is coming off an incredible junior year earning The United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team and Pac-12 All-Conference Second Team as a midfielder. She finished with a team-high seven assists which also ranked for second-most in the Pac-12 Conference.

It’s hard to ask for Delgado to be even better in her senior year, repeating her junior year and simply passing on the culture to a large freshman class with be more than enough. Anything more in her develop will simply mean really good things for Arizona State.
