The leap from freshman to sophomore year generally holds such a big part in a player’s development. That was the case for Arizona State goalkeeper Giulia Cascapera last season.
Cascapera took hold of the keeper job in the Sun Devils’ lemonade season in the spring. The hope is that she’ll continue to get better. There were freshman struggles, but after a small stint at West Virginia, Cascapera only spent so much time with the Sun Devils leading into the 2019 season. The talent showed up in 2021.
She collected five shutouts over the course of last season. Cascapera had a career-high 11 saves against Cal in April and had five games of at least five saves.
POINT. BLANK. SAVE.

Cascapera and the experience in the backline that is returning to Tempe should make for a combination that will give the opposition some headaches leading into the fall. The growth in the net was a big part of Sun Devil soccer last season and look for more of the same going forward.
