Former Arizona State kicker Zane Gonzalez will be taking over place kicking duties for the Carolina Panthers, starting this week. Carolina signed Gonzalez off the Lions’ practice squad Tuesday after he had worked out for the Panthers over the summer. The team waived Ryan Santoso, who went 2 for 2 on field goal attempts in the win over the Jets, but missed an extra point.

In his still young NFL career, Gonzalez has had stints with the Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals. He’s a 78% field goal kicker as a professional, and will be a member of the Panthers active roster for at least three weeks.
During his collegiate career with the Sun Devils, Gonzalez was highly decorated. He owns the FBS all-time record for field goals made with 96, and scored at least one point in each of the 51 games he appeared in. Sun Devil fans adored Gonzalez, and will be able to see him kicking at the highest level again in just a matter of days.
He should make his debut Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints.
