No kicker in school history has made more field goals than Zane Gonzalez.
Hitting from 35 yards out in the first quarter of Saturday’s game against the California Golden Bears, Gonzalez’s first field goal of the night - and 82nd of his NCAA career - broke the Arizona State Sun Devils’ school record for career made field goals.
The kick pulled his team to within 7-3 with just under one minute remaining in the opening quarter.
Luis Zendejas (1981-84) previously held the title, with 78 makes on top of three made attempts in postseason games. Zendejas would go on to kick professionally for seven years after graduating from Arizona State.
Gonzalez is coming off a banner week in which he made four field goals (and two from 54 yards) in his team’s 32-28 win at UTSA last Friday. The performance put him on top of the all-time Pac-12 points list and earned him both nation-wide and conference honors.
